Starting your Summer Camp USA Application
The first step towards your dream camp job is too apply online. You will start a Summer Camp USA application that outlines your experience working with kids as well as the activities you are passionate about. Once we have reviewed your application and made sure it is spot on, it’s time to for your interview with our Summer Camp Team! The interview allows us to get to know you a little better and helps us in find you the perfect camp job.
After your interview with the Summer Camp Team, your application will be viewed by various camps in the United States (we work with 1000’s of them). Camp Directors will review your online application and contact you directly if they are interested in hiring you as a camp counsellor!
Now that you’ve scored your dream camp job we can start to work on getting your work visa & flights sorted. We have an in-house STA Travel expert that gets amazing deals on travel and can offer group flight options with other camp counsellors. The last step is attending a pre departure orientation that covers everything you need to know about living and working at a camp and then it’s time to board a plane off to America!
Experienced preferred for Summer Camp USA
To be considered for a camp counsellor role, experience with children is recommended. You will be working with them 24/7, so you must love kids! You can have a variety of experience from babysitting, working at a day care, girl guides/boy scouts, coaching sports, teaching ect. The more experience you can bring to camp, the more attractive you become to Camp Directors.
You’re Role, and its Purpose at Summer Camp USA
There are two types of Camp Counsellors: Specialist Counsellor and General Counsellor.
The purpose of a specialist councillor is to teach and coach kids in an activity that they are qualified in. This can be any sport or activity the camp has to offer such as horse riding and water-skiing. This means you will be teaching your specific sport every day, and gaining more teaching and coaching experience. Specialist Counsellors generally help out and participate in night activities with the rest of the camp as well. Although you may be hired as a specialist counsellor you will have a role as a general counsellor also.
A General Counsellor’s role is to take care of a group of children while they are at camp. You will be assigned a specific group of boys or girls and you and your fellow co-counsellors will take them around different activities throughout the day. You will also participate in these activities with them, and help the specialist counsellors.
