Changes to the UK Youth Mobility and Ancestry Visa
Posted On: Thursday, 4 June 2021
As of June 1st there has been some changes made to the Youth Mobility and Ancestry visa for the UK that you need to be aware of.
- You are required to have an UK arrival date. In the past you did not need an intended arrival day and the visa and would just activate after 90 days of it being issued. That is no longer an option.
- From the intended arrival date you have 30 days to enter the UK. If you do not enter in that 30 days you will need to re-apply for the visa (pay the fees again).
- Upon arrival to the UK you will have 10 days to pick-up what is called a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from a nominated post shop in the UK.
- The nominated post shop is chosen by the post code on the visa application (hostel, mates house ect). There are designated post shops in each area for you to pick up the BRP from. Not all post shops will do this.
- The visa is still multiple entry, but you will need to carry the BRP card as that is the ‘work visa’.
- If you lose the BRP card there is a replacement fee.
How does this affect the you?
Let’s say they want to travel for longer than then 30 days prior to arriving to the UK. The visa will expire and you will need to re-apply. So do not plan on travelling longer than 90 days prior to your visa starting or it could get very expensive!
