J1 Visa Update

As you are most likely aware we’ve been monitoring the Foreign Worker Executive Order from the Trump presidency which has been focused on reviewing the J-1 culture exchange programs after the ‘Buy American and Hire America’ executive order that was issued in April 2017. Initially, this review was focused on the Summer, Work, Travel (4-month visa), but as of recently also includes other J-1 work programs (Intern, Trainee, Camp Counselor for example).

What we know

We’ve learned that the White House is close to making a decision regarding non-immigrant visa categories and this could potentially result in significant harm to the J-1 work exchange programs.

The sponsor community has been working diligently over the past months to advocate the J-1 culture exchange programs and have a strategy in place to ensure the continuation of this visa. They have been working with employers, business associations and chambers of commerce to rally support behind the J-1 visa.

What can you do?

If you want to put your support behind saving the J-1 visa we would encourage you to leave a testimonial from your experience in the US and how it positively impacted your life. If you would like to contribute you can do so here.

What does this mean for you?

Until a final decision has been made it is still business as normal. The Work USA and Summer Camp USA programs will continue to run as per usual. If you have any concerns about your travel plans please do not hesitate to contact us here.
